Services

1-on-1

My passion is working with people to create images, videos, and in-person looks. I have experience with make up for film, live performance, photoshoots, and events. I specialise in makeup for all skin tones, ages and genders. I understand beauty trends but will never push others into conforming to a certain aesthetic or standard.

Consultations

I also offer consultations which might include spending a day with someone, looking through the makeup and tools they own already, showing them how to best utilise those tools, and suggesting what they might need to add to their makeup collection. I would also help them apply their makeup to help them with general makeup skills. This can be for day to day makeup, an event, or any purpose.

Workshops

Visit umber’s Eventbrite for upcoming makeup workshops

Eventbrite

I have delivered makeup workshops at venues such as Tate Britain and Open Barbers with people aged 5-75. Workshops I have delivered include ‘Playing with Gender Face to Face’, ‘Masculine Makeup’ and ‘Feminine Faces’ where participants learned to accentuate certain shapes in the face to suit their gender identity, have fun with new looks, give them more control over their personal safety, and improve their confidence.

Private Makeup Workshops

1-on-1

These sessions can cover whatever you need, I’ve done sessions just for teaching someone one makeup look for a performance or event they are preparing for, I’ve taught people who want to advance the skills they’ve already cultivated, and I’ve taught people how to use makeup as total beginners.

Normally we start with what you want to achieve and what you struggle with. We look at the kit (your makeup and tools) you already have and see if there are any gaps that need filling in your kit. We go through your kit and learn all the ways you can use each product. We use what we have on hand to learn application techniques and create the looks you want and like.

If you don’t have any or much makeup and want to buy some, I recommend booking a half an hour session first so we can create a personalised shopping list, then you can book a full session where we will use your kit. If you have just a few gaps in your kit, we can make do with what you already have just to practise and learn, and you can buy what you need after, that’s usually what we do. I will have a full kit, so I can demonstrate and show you how it should look. For example, if your foundation is the wrong shade, we will see if you have anything on hand that you can use to adjust the shade, and if not, you can use the wrong shade to practise, or you can learn how to use it for another purpose. A too dark, too light, or wrong undertone foundation can be used for bronzing, contouring, concealing, highlighting, colour correcting, or even as eyeshadow. We’ll make a list of foundation options you can try out or buy and after the session I’ll be available to follow up with via email.

I’m all about getting the most out of what you already have, saving you money and time, and making sure you walk away with everything you need to confidently apply makeup in ways that feel good for you.

I’m not here to criticise how you look or what aesthetics appeal to you, I’m here to provide what you need and want to feel happy. I want you to enjoy looking in the mirror! Maybe you want to look effortlessly, naturally fresh and pretty, maybe you want to look like a demon with blood dripping from your eyes, maybe you want to look artistic but not too theatrical. I love it all. Want to cover acne? I’m in! Want to juxtapose your natural skin with a polished, stunning metallic eyeshadow look? Amazing! Want to look like a plastic doll? Great!

The timing and price depends on how much you want to cover in our workshop. Usually these sessions are between 1 and 3 hours. I usually charge £65-£100 per hour, but because we are donating the fee to 4 families surviving famine and occupation, I’m charging £50 per hour and offering a sliding scale for those who cannot afford that fee.

If you need a lower fee, drop me an email via the contact form letting me know your budget and I’ll get back to you. You don’t have to explain why you can’t afford the normal fee, just tell me what you can afford and I’ll let you know how many hours I can offer you for that fee. We can look at what you want to get out of our workshop and whether you need to buy any kit, and we can make sure we have enough time and budget to cover it all.

You can book the number of hours you think you need without giving me any information about what you want to learn, or if you know some or all of what you want to cover, you can send me an email. If it’s hard to put into words, I can send over a few simple questions so we can estimate how long we need for our workshop. You can also send a mood board, videos or images as well as or instead of writing to me.

Couples and Groups

These are tailored to the group, like the one-on-one sessions, but with more than one person I need a little background information to prepare. When you contact me to book a session, I’ll ask a few simple questions. You can also send me mood boards, pictures and videos to communicate what kinds of aesthetics or techniques you’re interested in.
